About the Kleroterion: Used in ancient Athens (5th-4th century BCE), the kleroterion was a sophisticated lottery machine that ensured fair and random selection of citizens for public offices, juries, and councils. Citizens would place their bronze identification tokens (pinakia) into slots, and black and white balls would determine who was selected, preventing corruption and maintaining democratic principles.
